#DANTE VIRTUAL SOUNDCARD LICENSE PATCH#

Now, I decide to also patch channels 1-8 FROM Dante Virtual Soundcard TO XDante for when I want to test the playback from Tracks Live back to the X32, which will be later down the post.

Well that's pretty important so now I go aaaaallllll the way back to the console (I actually just turned to my left a little.), look in the configuration menu to make sure the console is either at 44.1khz or was at 48khz, then within the Dante Controller software, each device's sample rate can be adjusted, so I adjust the XDante card as well as the Dante Virtual Soundcard to 48khz AND THEN I go to Tracks Live software, to the preferences window to adjust the software's sample rate to 48khz.īack in the Dante Controller software, I can now patch channels 1-8 from the XDante card to the Dante Virtual Soundcard, that way whatever audio I'm sending from my console (that I have properly routed) can now send to Dante Virtual Soundcard which is the ASIO driver for Tracks Live. When I hover the mouse over the patch block, a note pops up and says that the sample rates are mismatched. Channel one of XDante should be able to patch to Channel one of Dante Virtual Soundcard but for some reason I can't patch them. I see that there aren't any patches enabled between the two devices. Both have an assigned IP address from the switch and show the sync setting, configuration menus and just details of the two devices.

Once downloaded and opened, I see that the software sees my laptop (aka the Dante Virtual Soundcard) and the XDante card. Soooo off to I go to download the Dante Controller software. I then go to the Set up Menu and then to the Card tab and it was there that I saw something that said use Dante Controller software when using XDante card with DAW (that's not verbatim.).

Well, I look back onto the console and all my gains are are at a nice level. Sounds pretty simple right? Well.I still wasn't getting any audio.nothing when I record enabled the tracks and nothing when I enabled the channel monitor on Tracks. I could only do up to 8 channels of Dante.probably because I was using a small, non-gigabit switch so the bandwidth couldn't support all 32 channels of Dante.īack to the console, in the Routing window in the Card Out tab, by default the card's outputs are already routed to the Local inputs on the console, which means that the direct outputs of the input channels are sending to the XDante card, 1 to 1, sending to the laptop via Dante Virtual Soundcard and into Tracks Live. Mono In is equivalent to channel one on the XDante card, Mono 2 is channel two, Mono 3 is channel 3 and so on. So.what's next? Well, I got to my laptop, activate Dante Virtual Soundcard and then I open Tracks Live and go to the devices/preferences option to switch the ASIO driver to Dante Virtual Soundcard and so now I could go to the individual channels on Tracks and select their input and outputs to be routed to the Dante channels. Boom! We have created a network! On the XDante card, there will be a green light indicating a successful connection.

I simply plugged in an ethernet cable from the Primary port of the XDante card, to a port on the network switch, and then from another port on the switch to my PC. To start off, I had on hand the X32 console, a network switch (non-gigabit) and ethernet cables. *Dante Virtual Soundcard simply acts as an audio interface so the console and laptop can communicate.* I decided I would use Waves Tracks Live recording software to test this out since the software is free.

I have both a Macbook Pro and a PC laptop and I was able to successfully accomplish this task on both devices but this post will be written explaining the steps using a PC laptop.

Not having a clue as to how to even get started, of course I googled the majority just to make sure I stayed on the right track.

I wanted to create a blog post about this process and the few problems I came across, just incase someone else out there is having trouble. I happen to be in possession of a X32 and the X-Daunte card soooooooo I decided to figure it out, and it wasn't that complicated. I've often wondered how the whole multitrack recording and playback, essentially the "Virtual Soundcheck", features worked on digital consoles.
